Our Strengths
COMPLIANCE
Mansell has implemented all the appropriate management systems to ensure compliance with the rail industry’s strict procedures and regulations.
We hold a current Link-Up certification for work on Network Rail’s infrastructure and for some years we have also maintained our own Contractor Assurance Case (CAC). The CAC details our processes for ensuring we properly manage all aspects of Network Rail’s regulations during our construction activities.
Similar management systems are in place in relation to QUENSH (Quality, Environment, Safety & Health) for our operations on the London Underground network.
Over many years, Mansell has acquired a full understanding of operational assurance issues. This includes managing all the necessary planning and notification documentation that is a pre-requisite to obtaining access to work on the rail network.
OPERATIONAL EXPERTISE
The types of work Mansell undertakes in the rail environment are many and varied. Where we bring value is in co-ordinating the different work elements.
Traditional building operations such as brickwork, rendering, decorations, roofing, tiling and carpentry are often co-ordinated with civil engineering works such as platform replacement (including nosings), new ductways and cable runs or accessibility improvements.
Projects also usually include the installation and co-ordination of electrical and mechanical services. This includes facilitating and implementing REC upgrades, new switch rooms, signal equipment rooms and all associated cable management routes.
Mansell is highly skilled in managing the interface of the building works and services. By conducting impact analysis between the functions during any change process, we can consider all the critical associated operations. This allows us to closely monitor the programme and communicate developments to all concerned.
PROGRAMMING AND PLANNING
Rail operations depend on detailed programming and planning to ensure that works can be undertaken safely and efficiently. This is particularly true with regard to obtaining access to the network and making best use of the limited time slots available.
Mansell employs specialist planners, trained in the requisite software, who co-ordinate construction processes with operational assurance systems. They ensure all notifications, works plans and supporting documentation are linked to the production of appropriate Method Statements and then to the works themselves.
Meeting project objectives is our planners’ priority so they liaise with project management teams, client representatives, station staff and asset engineers. By consulting with all the stakeholders they can make sure they understand their expectations and incorporate their requirements into the programme.
Mansell adds further value through early involvement in design development, buildability and value engineering, providing budget and programme certainty as the project evolves.
SAFETY
The rail environment requires Health and Safety management systems of the highest standards. Mansell prides itself on achieving and exceeding challenging safety performance targets.
Utmost care is vital to ensure that operatives remain fit and well, and also to protect rail assets and leave them in good working order when they are returned into operational use.
Before each shift, we give our workforce a full briefing to ensure there is no clash of operations and that everyone is clear of their task and what is expected of them. A second briefing checks all the necessary Method Statements are available for the particular operation and that there is complete awareness of the surrounding environment.
Project Managers are advised and assisted by dedicated health and safety professionals who carry out regular audits and analyse performance data to identify trends which can be shared with the client team and actioned for improvement.
