Our Strengths
OFF-SITE MANUFACTURING
The design, manufacture and installation of pre-fabricated buildings and components is where our design team excels, integrating manufacturing techniques with the construction process.
We offer a total solution from the experts who dissect the design of a structure into its component parts to the Logistics Managers on site who put it all together.
Our pioneering work in conjunction with BAA on pre-fabricated corridors brought installation times down from ten weeks to just three and won a Quality in Construction Award for Product and Materials Innovation.
Since then, the range of products that have received the “OSM” treatment has expanded greatly and includes stairways, plant rooms and washrooms. In fact, over 30% of our airports work now uses this method.
Despite the speedy installation process, the buildings are designed to last. This sustainability has encouraged the transfer of our expertise into other industry sectors such as rail, hotels and student accommodation.
DESIGN AND INNOVATION
Our in-house expertise in design is an unusual asset that offers huge advantages.
The main focus is on designing and installing off-site manufactured structures with significant benefits for cost, time and health and safety.
But necessity being the mother of invention, we’ve produced some other highly innovative solutions to logistical challenges.
We attached tools to extendable access platforms to prevent them falling while we installed firewall protection in ceiling voids. And using hover pads we floated tons of steel into Heathrow’s Terminal 3 while building a concrete mall floor over a functioning check-in area.
We also linked up with adventure balloonist, Per Lindstrand, to engineer an inflatable dirigible roof, the first of its kind, to form a three-storey column-free concourse at Heathrow’s central coach and bus station.
Clever stuff but all in a day’s work for this team for whom there’s no such word as “can’t”!
COLLABORATION
Collaboration in our airports activity is so tight that it’s sometimes difficult to spot the boundaries between Mansell and other organisations.
This seamless approach is best illustrated by our framework agreement with BAA. Not only are we co-located at Heathrow but our Production and Commercial Managers often take on “client” roles to assist in successful project delivery. Welcome spin-offs from this arrangement, which includes our own supply chain, are exciting technological and product innovations, tangible improvements in quality, time and cost and exceptional health and safety performance.
We’ve developed relationships with our supply chain partners to the point where they completely share our focus on customer satisfaction – providing an excellent, reliable service and inputting into design and buildability.
Beyond this, our close collaboration with outside experts in manufacturing design, engineering and architecture adds extra value to the Mansell service.
