Our Strengths

CONSIDERATE CONSTRUCTING
Many of Britain’s heritage and culture properties are open to the public – either as buildings of use, such as museums or exhibition spaces – or as objects of interest in their own right. Considerate constructing practices are therefore vital in such environments, ensuring public safety as a priority, but also as a means of minimising disruption to staff and visitors.

Mansell is well-versed in phasing and fast-tracking work as well as isolating exhibits and specific areas to enable a building’s continued public use and ensure the protection of adjacent environments and artefacts. Our pioneering use of specialist noise, atmospheric monitoring and vibration-reducing equipment helps maintain a pleasant environment.

JOINERY
Hall & Tawse Joinery, Mansell’s subsidiary, offers the very best in traditional craftsmanship combining artistic appreciation, hands-on experience and historical accuracy.

Specialising in non-standard and bespoke joinery, the team maintains a proud tradition of using heritage techniques and methods, offering the most sympathetic and accurate means of recreating timber structures, relief work and carvings within historic buildings.

Such is the superior quality of their work in fact, that in Scotland, Hall & Tawse retains the Royal Warrant for building services to Her Majesty’s palaces.

A modern production facility coupled with advancing timber technology means productivity is enhanced without any compromise on quality.

Traditional sash and case windows are a particular speciality. As well as being popular due to their aesthetic appeal, they are also now designed to bring improved weather-tightness and thermal properties to old buildings.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Our heritage work isn’t just about repairing and restoring original features – often it involves integrating and installing new technologies within historic environments.

From air conditioning and climate control, to security devices, fire defences or multi-media systems, the range of technologies from which older buildings can benefit is ever-expanding.

Our role is to make these improvements possible, without compromising the existing fabric or appearance of the building.

SUSTAINABILITY
While much of our heritage work focuses on preserving the past, our expertise in sustainable and energy efficient technologies is also helping to ensure the future of many historic buildings.

From basic interventions such as natural lambs-wool insulation, to wind turbines and grey-water harvesting systems, we can provide the long-term solutions to help support both individual buildings and the wider environment.
