Mansell lands £3.9 million offshore wind farm facility contract at Ramsgate Port

Mansell has won a £3.9 million contract to construct an Operations and Maintenance Base at Ramsgate Port.

The operations and maintenance building has been designed to achieve BREEAM “Excellent” status and will provide an operational facility for London Array which will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm when built.

The project will be managed by Mansell’s Maidstone office. London Array will be located around 12 miles from the Kent and Essex coasts in the outer Thames Estuary.

Once complete the 1,000MW development will generate enough electricity to power 750,000 homes and displace the emission of 1.9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

The distinct architectural concept has been designed by BBLB architects specifically around the exposed marine conditions and driven by positive sustainable measures. The maintenance building and offices take advantage of natural light and incorporates an extensive grass roof and Combined Heat and Power (CHP).

Works will commence on site in September and are expected to complete in June 2011.
