Mansell constructs award winning education project in Tayside

Providing a green learning environment for local school children to enjoy was the target for Mansell's Tayside regional team. The project later went on to win a Bronze Award from The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) Excellence Awards to celebrate promoting sustainability.
Dunning Primary School in Scotland sets new standards in energy efficiency and sustainable design. Employing a number of innovative ideas including display panels to monitor energy used by the school and provided by the photo voltaic units, Astroturf play areas and a school allotment.
The £3.4 million project comprised alterations to the existing two-storey schoolhouse and the construction of a single-storey extension to form a new primary school. The building includes five new classrooms, with associated activity space, games hall, multi-purpose room, resources area and associated offices, stores and meeting rooms.
Every six weeks a group of teachers and pupils donned their safety gear and visited the site for an update on progress, allowing them to report back to the community. Although sad to see the site team leave, the children are looking forward to learning about all of the ways their new school works to protect the environment.
