Mansell completes East London Line project
July 01, 2010
Mansell's London Special Projects team has improved the commute of thousands of Londoners by completing a £65 million extension to the East London Line, constructing four new overground railway stations at Dalston, Haggerston, Hoxton and Shoreditch for Transport for London.
This high profile project saw the construction of four two-storey stations using a mixture of traditional and modular construction with a large mechanical and electrical interface. The scheme fully utilised the skills of the rail team as it involved a mixture of civil, building, mechanical and electrical services, creating a fully functioning railway service.
Monthly safety audits helped to achieve over 1.4 million hours worked without a reportable accident or incident. London Mayor Boris Johnson, who officially opened the route, said: “This new railway will bring jobs and opportunities to communities up and down the line, massively improving access for hundreds of thousands of people.”
The line will form part of a planned wider London Overground network, which will allow passengers to travel around London on the line without having to enter central areas of the city.
