Mansell wins £8.7 million health contract in Werneth

June 03, 2010

Mansell has been awarded an £8.7 million contract to construct Werneth Primary Care Centre on behalf of Community 1st Oldham for NHS Oldham.

The centre will replace four existing GP practices and will enable a fifth to relocate within the surrounding area of the site, providing access for around 20,000 patients. Facilities will include a pharmacy, dentist surgery and specialist community-based services. The intention is to create a health care facility which will be able to support joint working across public and voluntary service providers.

The steel frame construction will aim to achieve a BREEAM “Excellent” rating as it will employ the use of polished concrete pre cast cladding panels, Rodecca polycarbonate panels and Green2Go electrical generation with heat recovery.

Local employment is an important component of the project which will be implemented through the J21 Partnership. J21 is a joint commitment between local business and colleges to maximise construction related employment and sub-contracting opportunities within the region. Since signing the charter Mansell has provided a number of work placements for students helping them to gain valuable hands-on experience required to secure future employment.

This is the second contract Mansell has been awarded by NHS Oldham, Royton Health and Wellbeing Centre is due for completion later this year.
